Four and a Half Years Later, the Stock Finally Got There
This is SoFi's third-quarter 2025 report, covering the three months ended September 30, 2025. Total net revenue was $961.6 million, up 38% year over year from $697.1 million in Q3 2024, and up from Q2 2025's $854.9 million. GAAP net income was $139.4 million, an eighth consecutive profitable quarter, up from Q2's $97.3 million. Adjusted EBITDA reached a new record of $276.9 million, up from Q2's record $249.1 million.
Financial Services' contribution profit reached $225.6 million, up 126% year over year, and now stands at 86% of Lending's $261.6 million - the closest this site has ever recorded the two segments, extending the trend tracked every quarter since Q1 2025. Total members reached over 12.6 million; total deposits reached $32.95 billion, up from Q2's $29.54 billion. SoFi Technologies' total risk-based capital ratio jumped to 20.2%, up sharply from Q2's 14.4% - a direct result of the $1.7 billion equity raise completed the day after Q2 ended.
But the number most readers will care about most is the stock price: SOFI closed the quarter at $26.42 - the first time in this site's entire multi-year coverage that SOFI has closed above its $25.14 January 2021 all-time high, set during the SPAC-merger enthusiasm before this site's coverage even began tracking real operating financials.
The Prescription
SoFi should treat clearing the January 2021 high as a moment to reset the market's framing of the company entirely, not just a stock-price milestone to note in passing. Every prior post in this coverage has measured the stock against that 2021 peak as the benchmark for "how far the recovery has come" - that framing no longer works, and management's own investor communication should shift from "recovering toward" to "what does a sustainably profitable, capital-adequate SoFi look like from here," since the old reference point has been surpassed.
What SoFi should stop doing is letting the capital-ratio story read as resolved just because this quarter's number recovered sharply. The 20.2% figure is real and welcome, but it's also mechanically inflated by a one-time capital injection (the July raise) rather than by organic capital generation outpacing loan growth - the same dynamic that caused two consecutive quarters of decline before the raise is still present underneath. Management should be explicit about what ratio level it's managing toward on an ongoing, non-raise-assisted basis.
Segments: Financial Services at 86% of Lending's Profit
SoFi reports three segments: Lending, Technology Platform, and Financial Services.
| Segment | Net Revenue (Q3 2025) | Contribution Profit (Q3 2025) | Net Revenue (Q3 2024) | Contribution Profit (Q3 2024) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lending | $493,382 | $261,600 | $396,245 | $238,928 |
| Technology Platform | $114,578 | $32,371 | $102,539 | $32,955 |
| Financial Services | $419,623 | $225,557 | $238,308 | $99,758 |
Lending's contribution profit grew 9% on 25% revenue growth - a genuine margin decline this quarter (roughly 53% versus 60% a year earlier), the second time in three quarters this site has flagged margin pressure in this segment. Technology Platform's contribution profit actually fell slightly (down 2%) despite 12% revenue growth - a third straight quarter of poor conversion, now a clearly established pattern rather than noise, and the weakest segment in the business by this measure for three quarters running. Financial Services again leads: contribution profit of $225.6 million, up 126% year over year, on revenue that grew 76% - and margin actually expanded (to roughly 54% from 42% a year ago) even as Lending's compressed, a genuine divergence between SoFi's two largest segments this quarter.

Stock Price: Above the January 2021 High for the First Time
SOFI closed the quarter (September 30, 2025) at $26.42 per share, up 45% from Q2's $18.21 close - a third consecutive quarter of double-digit percentage gains. The rally was steady across the quarter (July $22.58, August $25.54, September $26.42), consistent with the string of record Adjusted EBITDA prints and the capital-ratio recovery rather than a single news-driven spike. This is the first quarter-end close in this site's entire coverage above the $25.14 January 2021 all-time high - a milestone that took roughly four and a half years and eight consecutive profitable quarters to reach after the stock's post-SPAC collapse.
Beyond the Usual
The Capital Ratio Recovery Is Real But Mechanically Assisted by the July Raise
SoFi Technologies' total risk-based capital ratio jumped to 20.2% this quarter from Q2's 14.4% - a 5.8-point improvement that traces almost entirely to the $1.7 billion equity raise completed on July 31, 2025, rather than to organic earnings retention outpacing balance-sheet growth over just one quarter. The underlying dynamic that caused the ratio to fall for two straight quarters before the raise - loan growth outpacing capital generation - hasn't necessarily reversed; it's been temporarily offset by a capital injection. Whether the ratio holds near 20% or resumes declining over the next few quarters is the real test of whether this is durably resolved.
Technology Platform's Weak Conversion Is Now a Three-Quarter Pattern
Technology Platform's contribution profit fell slightly this quarter despite double-digit revenue growth - the third straight quarter (following Q1 and Q2 2025) this site has flagged the segment failing to convert revenue growth into profit growth. This is now the company's clearest underperforming segment by a measurable margin, a genuine reversal from the acceleration this site tracked through the first half of 2024.
Lending's Margin Compression Recurred for the Second Time in Three Quarters
Lending's contribution margin fell to roughly 53% this quarter, down from around 60% a year earlier - echoing Q1 2025's compression, which had appeared to reverse in Q2. Two compressions in three quarters is a genuine pattern worth tracking, not a one-off - it's the same underlying dynamic (record loan origination volume growing faster than the segment's directly attributable expenses can be held flat) that likely also drives the capital-ratio pressure discussed above.
Target Valuation Range
With the stock now trading above its all-time SPAC-era high on record profitability, the current price is best read as the market pricing in continued execution at or above this quarter's pace - inside the base case (~$63-68 billion enterprise value) but closer to its bull-case edge than a comfortable margin, with limited room for a Technology Platform or Lending-margin disappointment before a pullback.
With 1,205,903,044 shares outstanding as of October 31, 2025 (the closest disclosed count to this filing) and a September 30, 2025 close of $26.42, implied market capitalization was roughly $31.86 billion, up sharply from approximately $21.80 billion at the end of Q2 2025.

| EV/Revenue» | ~16.5x | ~14.9x | ~17.6x | ~19.6x |
| Scenario | Key assumption | Implied enterprise value |
|---|---|---|
| Bear | Technology Platform's conversion gap and Lending's margin pressure both worsen; multiple compresses to ~15x TTM revenue on a growth-quality re-rating | ~$50-53 billion |
| Base | Financial Services keeps growing near this quarter's pace, Lending and Technology Platform stabilize rather than improve; multiple holds near the current ~19-20x | ~$63-68 billion |
| Bull | Financial Services overtakes Lending outright, capital ratio holds near 20% organically (not raise-assisted); multiple re-rates toward ~23-24x on a full re-rating to profitable-fintech-platform status | ~$76-80 billion |
| Current (period-end close) | September 30, 2025 actual | ~$65,135,108 |
The multiple has now nearly doubled from where this site first tracked it two years ago (~9.9x in Q3 2022), and the current enterprise value sits inside the base case but closer to its upper edge than its lower one - consistent with a stock pricing in continued strength but not yet the full bull-case re-rating. The two segment-level findings above (Technology Platform, Lending margin) are the specific risks most likely to push this toward the bear case if either persists into Q4.
